How NPPA-stands-out

Nepal Progressive Professors’ Association (NPPA)

Dr. Padma Prasad Khatiwada President, Nepal Progressive Professors’ Association

he Nepal Progressive Professors’ Association (NPPA) is a dynamic organization representing teaching professionals across universities in Nepal. It is committed to safeguarding the trade union rights and professional interests of faculty members, promoting a progressive and student-centered education system, ensuring mandatory employment opportunities, fostering academic excellence, and actively contributing to the development of an equitable, advanced, and fully democratic republic of Nepal. While dedicated to professional responsibilities, the association also serves as a platform for patriotic, progressive, and pro-people leftist academics who align with values similar to parties like the Nepali Congress (UML), thereby maintaining a sustained and meaningful connection among intellectuals striving for social justice and academic advancement. The NPPA boasts a long and distinguished history. To date, the organization has successfully conducted 11 general conventions. Established in 1980 (2036 BS) as a nucleus, it was formed during a period when political parties faced restrictions, aiming to channel democratic ideas through academic circles. Over the years, the association has been nurtured and shaped by eminent academic personalities, including Bishweshwarman Shrestha, Krishna Pokharel, Krishna Bahadur Raut, Krishna Bahadur Thapa, Bidur Upadhyay, Gopal Pokharel, Mahendra Pandey, Madhav Nyaupane, Chandra Raj Dhungel, Chaitanya Sharma, Vijay Silwal, and Chiranjivi Sharma, among others, who played a pivotal role in establishing the organization’s vision and guiding its mission.
